UNSC divided over North Korea rocket launch
Prague, Apr 6: The United Nations Security Council meet convened to discuss the steps to be taken against North Korea for its rocket launch, was unable to reach a conclusion even after a series of discussions on Sunday, Apr 5. The member nations could not reach an agreement over whether, North Korea has breached a UN resolution and whether it should be punished.
While United States and Japan demanded for strong action and response from international community, Russia and China preferred a cautious approach citing concerns for the stability in the region. Though US and Japan said that North Korea's rocket launch was a breach of UN resolution, Russia and China said it was not sure whether the nation launched a missile or communication satellite.
On Apr 5, North Korea launched a long-range rocket, which it said was a communication satellite. But international community fears it could have been a disguised missile test.
