Colombo, Apr 5: Sri Lankan army on Sunday, Apr 5 said that the last bastion of the LTTEPuthukudiyirippu, is captured and over 420 militants were killed in the fierce battle.
The army claimed that the Tamil tigers are now been confined to a no-fire zone. However the Lankan army so far could not capture LTTE chief V Prabhakaran and his son, who are believed to be hiding amongst civilians in a no-fire zone. Several senior LTTE leaders have been killed in this last offensive by the Sri Lankan army.
Army also seized a 30 mm anti-aircraft machine gun, three 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine guns, seven multi purpose machine guns, 43 T-56 assault rifles, two 40 mm grenade launchers, four 5.56 mm weapons and three rocket propelled grenade (RPG) launchers.
Fierce fighting is on in the last remaining areas controlled by Tamil Tigers.
