Panruti blocked DMK-AIADMK merger: MK
Chennai, Apr 1: M Karunanidhi, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President said that it was PanrutiRamachandran who blocked the merger of DMK and AIADMK decades ago. Panruti was one of the cabinet colleagues of AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran (MGR).
MK recalled the past efforts to merge both parties at the Kalaignar awards and Murasoli Maran award function here. K Veeramani, the DK leader who was also present at the occasion said MGR had conveyed his interest to merge both DMK and AIADMK to journalist Solai and to him and had a detail discussion with them at his residence.
DK leader later conveyed MGR's intention to Karunanidhi. MK told to Veeramani if MGR really wanted the merger, then he would drop a hint at the Assembly session to be convened two days later. Karunanidhi who after Veeramani said former Orissa CM, Biju Patnaik had acted as a mediater between him and MGR. The AIADMK leader agreed for merger but with certain conditions. But within a few hours he changed his stand and rubbished the merger talks as rumours.
