26/11 attacks: Kasav gets a woman lawyer

Mumbai, Mar 30: Anjali Waghmare, lawyer from the Maharashtra Service Legal Authority will be representing Azam Amir Kasav, lone terrorist captured in the Mumbai terror attacks. The trial of the terrorist will begin on Apr 6 in a special high security court in Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.

Judge M L Tahiliyani informed Kasav that advocate Waghmare from the state legal aid would represent him and another lawyer would be appointed to assist her.

Kasav was not produced before the court due to security reasons. But Kasav attended proceedings through video conferencing from the Arthur Road jail.

The court informed Kasav that on Apr 6 , the lawyer would brief him about the proceedings. She would also help him in reading the police chargesheet as she was familiar with Marathi and English languages.

Waghmare was present during the video conferencing and was introduced to Kasav, who said he had no objection to her appointment as his lawyer.

Kasav also asked for newspapers. The court told him that his plea could be taken up during the trial.
