Chased by dog, boy falls to death in TN

Chennai, Mar 30: A 11-year-old boy was chased to death by a dog in Meenambakkam of Tamil Nadu. Shamita Nayak, the owner of the dog, was arrested from Indian Airlines quarters.

The 22-year-old air hostess was living with her elder sister, who works for Indian Airlines, in one of the apartments in the building. On Saturday, Mar 27 at around 8 pm, Shamita let her dog Shadow, a Labrador out. It went up to the terrace frightening two boys, 11-year-old Asish Arvindan, son of Srinivasan, a traffic assistant with Indian Airlines and Prashant, who were playing there.

After seeing the dog, Prashant ran towards his mother who was also there on the terrace. But Asish, who was standing close to the parapet wall, tripped over it and fell to the ground. He was soon taken to near by private hospital in Nanganallur from where doctors advised to shift Asish to MIOT hospital. But the boy was declared dead on arrival at MIOT around 11 pm.

Police arrested Shamita for negligence and remanded in judicial custody. The air hostess is charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 289 and 304 (a). Residents of the apartments had earlier too complained of Shamita being careless with the dog.
