Washington, Mar 26: An American think-tank said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) was in the hit list of Islamic militants. US based think tank, Stratfor said that terrorists had plans to carry out 26/11 model attack, targeting a host of foreign cricket players during the IPL which has now been shifted to South Africa.
"The Indian intelligence apparatus is thought to have warned the central government of a flood of specific threats against both Indian and foreign cricket players," said Stratfor. Games being played in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka were more on the terrorist hit list, it added.
The 'think tank' further said that the attack on Srilankan Cricketers in Lahore shows how the Islamic militants in the region have an agenda to internationalise their cause. The Indian government decided to sacrifice IPL matches after the Intelligence Bureau (IB) warned the government of the terror threat to foreign players and the coming general elections.
