Kolkata, Mar 25: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday, Mar 25 said they will not have one permanent captain for the second edition of the Indian Premier League.
Kolkata Knight Riders manager John Buchanan said that the decision has nothing to do with Sourav Ganguly's performance. It's just that we would like him to concentrate on batting when he's batting, bowling when he's bowling.
My decisions have nothing to do with Ganguly. It's how I perceive the game of T20. There is no controversy at all. I am open to look at running the side in a new way, Buchanan added.
Sourav and I had a long discussion yesterday and decided that there need not necessarily be a fixed captain, Buchanan said. A dejected Sourav Ganguly reacted saying, "It is new and I think we will have to assess it. John has all the right to make the decision, he is the coach."
"The concept of multiple captains is new, we'll have to see how it goes", Buchanan said.
Captian will be decided depending on the game. There can also be multiple team captains in the series.
