Pak CJ returns to work after 16 months
Islamabad, Mar 24: Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry arrived in court on Tuesday Mar 24 after he was reinstated by the Zardari govt. Chaudhry arrived to the Court the first time in sixteen months after his suspension by former President Pervez Musharraf.
Chaudhry arrived at court amidst much fanfare by lawyers, who have been demanding he be reinstated. Pakistan saw huge protests by lawyers and opposition last week till the Zardari government finally gave in to their demands.
He is the only top judge in the country to have faced suspension and sacking but managed to stage a dramatic comeback. Though it was then President Pervez Musharraf who appointed him Chief Justice of Pakistan on May 7, 2005, Chaudhry had an almost running battle with the military general-turned politician ever since.
