Slumdog kids date with Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi, Mar 19: Nine-year-old Rubina Ali Qureshi and ten-year-old Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, who starred in the Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionare, met Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi on Thursday, Mar 19.
When they came to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi, both Azhar and Rubina expressed their intention to campaign for the party. They said, "We want to campaign for the Congress party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election. We want to go to the voters to tell them to cast their vote for the Congress."
They were also accompanied by fashion designer Leena Singh.
The children are in the capital to participate in the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW). They are set to walk the ramp for designers Ashima and Leena Singh in the event.
The child actors, who reside in a Mumbai slum, met Gandhi and discussed their problems with her. Gandhi, in turn promised them a home.
