IBM-Kaiser enters into $500 mn deal

Armonk, Mar 17: IBM Corp signed a 7-year technology-services contract worth $500 million with Kaiser Permanente. IBM will provide Kaiser with up-to-date online medical data as part of the contract. Calling the deal as one of the largest service contract ever awarded in the health care industry, IBM said it will be managing Kaiser's data center operations, software and storage.

IBM-Kaiser deal is aimed to improve the infrastructure behind Kaiser's HealthConnect, which links the group's facilities in one electronic system, for medical services and health information online. Reports suggest that daily about 14,000 doctors and caretakers use the system which have about 2.7 million members health records stored-in.
