Sharat Sabharwal, next Indian envoy to Pak
New Delhi, Mar 16: Sharat Sabharwal will be the new envoy to Islamabad, announced the Indian Government on Monday, Mar 16. Sabharwal will succeed Satyabrata Pal as India's high commissioner to Pakistan. Pal's tenure came to an end on Feb 28.
Sabharwal, is currently special secretary in charge of administration, consular, passport and visa affairs in the external affairs ministry. He is no stranger to Pakistan as he was a 1975 batch Indian Foreign Services (IFS) officer. He served as India's deputy high commissioner in Islamabad between 1995-1999.
Sabharwal has also served as India's deputy permanent representative to Geneva and ambassador to Uzbekistan.
