11-yr old commits suicide over parents' squabbles

Ahmedabad, Mar 16: A 11-year old boy, Arpan Panchal has committed suicide pained by his physically challenged parents' daily squabbles at his home in Odhav on Saturday, Mar 14 evening. Arpan was the only child of Shailesh Panchal and Bhavna. He hung himself from his mother's silk dupatta from a metal pipe in the house.

Arpan was alone in the house as his mother had left for her native village in Bhavnagar following a quarrel with Shailesh. Shailesh and his father-in-law had returned home late in the evening to find the door locked. After continuous knocking, they broke open the door with the help of neighbours only to find Arpan dead.

Arpan was very distressed after his mother left. He repeatedly pleaded with his father to intervene and stop her.

Shailesh then went looking for his wife. Officials say Arpan had apparently stumbled upon his father's suicide note. He then added in the note that he agreed with his father's stance before ending his life.
