Kolkata, Mar 12: Congress party accepted Trinamool Congress's seat sharing formula on Thursday, Mar 12. This happened less than 24 hours after Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee gave a two-day ultimatum to the Congress to accept the alliance with her party in the state of West Bengal.

Congress will contest in 14 seats of the 42 , while Trinamool will contest in 28 seats.

In 2004 Lok Sabha polls the ruling Left Front won 35 of the 42 seats in West Bengal, but it got a mere vote share of 51 pc. With Trinamool gaining strength in rural Bengal it is crucial for Congress to have an alliance with Mamata's party which will inturn increase vote bank.
