Chennai, Mar 10: Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai will soon go high-tech as every bus stop in city is all set to have a Global Positioning System (GPS), a vending machine, a public telephone, a cell-phone charging outlet, ceiling fans and security guards. The state is planning to have about 500 such bus shelters across Chennai.

Government is planning to complete the installation in six months. The bus stop might also have surveillance cameras, FM radio, water vending machine and an ATM machine. D Muralidharan, the Managing Director of Metro Multimedia said, "My only request to the passengers is to please support us in this. If they help us in maintaining this and promise not to allow damages to come about, we can give them more such features. It is public property and since a lot of people will be using it, we will need all the support we can get." He added that the proposal for fitting surveillance camera will help track down pickpockets and control eve-teasing.

The Metro Transport Corporation with the help of Metro Multimedia has planned to construct the bus shelters on roads such as Anna Salai, Poonamallee High Road, Nungambakkam High Road, NSC Bose Road, Kodambakkam High Road and Sardar Patel Road.
