SpiceJet in merger talks with GoAir?

Mumbai, Mar 9: A media report suggests that SpiceJet Ltd is in talks with GoAir for either a merger or to acquire a controlling stake. GoAir is owned by Wadia group. SpiceJet CEO Sanjay Aggarwal is reported to have met GoAir Managing Director Jeh Wadia in Feb to discuss a deal. Earlier SpiceJet's Aggarwal has announced the airlines plan to set up a regional airline to connect smaller cities.

GoAir which has applied for more slots currently flies to smaller cities like Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Kochi otherthan Delhi and Mumbai. It is also looking to increase its fleet to 20 aircraft by 2011 from 5 at present. Both SpiceJet and GoAir spokespersons refused to comment on the issue.
