Chennai, Mar 9: J Jayalalithaa, All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo and the chief opposition in Tamil Nadu is observing one-day fast demanding immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka. Jaya's fast is also to condemn the UPA government's and the DMK led state government's failure in ending the war in the Island nation.

AIADMK chief alleged the Centre and State of neglecting and showing 'less concern' to the sufferings of the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka. She accused that the Tamil civilians are killed by the weapons provided by India to the island nation,

With Lok Sabha and Assembly polls nearing it is clear that AIADMK chief's sudden twist and support to Tamils is seen as an attempt to rope in new alliance specially with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). PMK is scheduled to announce its poll strategy in few days and its backing can be crucial to any political alliance in Tamil Nadu.
