Srinagar, Mar 9 (ANI): Police here have provided new vehicles for flying squads as part of a police-public improvement exercise.

"Basically, it has been introduced to improve police-public relations. The initiative is to help people who are in distress and to secure some areas," said Syed Agha-dil-Mujtaba, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Srinagar).

The old white colour Gypsy has now been replaced with striking yellow coloured Sumo.

By dialling 100, people can get in touch with the Police Control Room, which would then immediately contact the flying squads placed at different locations.

"Earlier people used to go to the police station which consumed a lot of time. We have now introduced this system," said Mohammad Shafi, a driver-cum-operator of a flying squad.

The new service has been appreciated by locals.

At present, there are around 25 flying squads in Srinagar. (ANI)
