We are sorry for Babri Masjid demolition: Congress

Lucknow, Mar 8: Congress General Secretary and party in-charge in the state of Uttar Pradesh Digvijay Singh, apologised for the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 when the party was in power at the centre. "We would once again like to say sorry to the nation for the demolition of the Babri Masjid as at that time the P V Narasimha Rao led-Congress was in power," he said.

He also made it clear that Congress party will not have any kind of association with former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kalyan Singh who was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at the time of demolition. Singh was in the state to flag off and address a rally organised by the Congress minority cell to urge the UP government to utilise fund allocated by the UPA government for several schemes for the minorities.
