London, Mar 6 (ANI): As the world continues to drown in economic sorrows, men, it seems, are not that well-equipped to fight the ongoing situation. A new study has found that males who think they may lose their jobs become more depressed and stressed than women in the same situation.

The study, which was conducted by University of Cambridge academics, found that job insecurity took a far greater toll of the mental health of both men and women, reports The Times.

To reach the conclusion, Brendan Burchell, of the university's sociology department, used data gathered during the last two recessions, and case studies in which companies were taken over by competitors, making job cuts inevitable.

Although men put on a brave face in times of uncertainty, they recorded higher measures than women of depression and anxiety on the standard clinical measure.

According to Burchell, there was in part "a macho issue about men being the breadwinner". (ANI)
