PM back to work after surgery, meets Benin Prez

New Delhi, Mar 4 Five weeks after undergoing bypass surgery, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had his first official engagement on Wednesday, Mar 4. He held talks with President of Benin, Boni Yayi at his residence in New Delhi.

In his 30 minutes meeting Dr Singh discussed wide range of bilateral and global issues. The talks will be followed by the signing of some economy-related agreements, officials said.

According to official sources, Dr, Singh will hold delegation-level discussions with the leader of the West African nation and oversee signing of some agreements.

Benin is an ethnically diverse West African country that is opening up its economy to attract more foreign investment. Dr Singh has been attending to urgent official work from home for a few days now but on Wednesday, Mar 4 talks with the President of Benin marked his first official engagement.

76-year-old Singh underwent a 'redo' coronary artery bypass surgery to remove five blockages in his heart at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Jan 24.
