Mumbai, Mar 2: Sourabhee Debbarma, 22, from Agartala became the first female to win the Indian Idol. She won the grand finale of the fourth season of Indian Idol in Mumbai on Sunday, Mar 1 night.
Sourabhee enthralled the gathering with popular numbers and piped other finalists, Bengali girl Torsha Sarkar and army man Kapil Thapa. She walked away with a Rs 10 million contract with Sony TV and a car.
The result was based on public voting. Bollywood stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh also participated in the grand finale and also promoted their forthcoming film 'New York'.
Judges of Indian Idol Javed Akhtar, Anu Malik and Kailash Kher were also present to cheer the finalists. The 22-year-old lass had no professional training in music.
