Slumdog child actors to get new flats
Mumbai, Feb 25: The two main child actors from the Oscar winning movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' will get new homes from Maharashtra govt.
Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail hailing from Dharavi slum, played roles of Jamal and Latika in Slumdog. They both will get one flat each from Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA).
"These two children have brought laurels to the country, and we have been told that they live in slums, which cannot even be classified as housing," said Gautam Chatterjee, head of the state-run Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority.
The acting talent of the two has made India proud. The children, who belong to underprivileged family, are special for us. They played equal role in getting the movie the Oscars, Gautam Chatterjee said.
There was an outcry after pictures emerged of the child stars living in squalor despite the $15 million movie earning about $100 million since its North American release last Nov.
