300 lawyers go on hunger strike in TN
Chennai, Feb 23: Around 300 lawyers on Monday, Feb 23 went on a day-long fast in front of Madras High Court. Despite, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister threatened the lawyers and Police that he would go on a hunger strike from his hospital bed if they did not resolve the issue, the lawyers went on a strike.
The lawyers took this decision a day after their associations decided to boycott courts indefinitely to press their demands, including action against police officials for the Thursday, Feb 19 lathi charge in the court premises.
Various lawyer associations including the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) commenced the fast.
Meanwhile, the High Court has ordered all courts across Tamil Nadu to close down till Tuesday, Feb 24 to enable restoration of normalcy.
