CPM seeks Swiss bank accounts details of all Indians
New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday called on the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) to furnish the details of Indians who have illegally stashed away funds in Swiss bank accounts to evade taxes.
The demand came as one of the largest Swiss banks, UBS, agreed to provide information to the United States about account holders who are suspected to have evaded taxes in America.
"In the case of India, it is not only a case of tax evasion but also of funds being illegally stashed abroad, or used for money laundering," a CPM statement said.
It asked the Centre to take steps to bring back the unaccounted wealth from abroad.If the UPA Government is serious about stopping black money and raising resources to meet the growing economic crisis, it must take steps to bring back the unaccounted wealth of Indians abroad," the party said.
The CPM alleged that Swiss banks hold substantial sums of money deposited illegally by Indians. (ANI)
