New Delhi, Feb 22 (ANI): The Centre is keeping eye on the developments in Swat Valley in Pakistan due to Talibans and in Sri Lanka due to LTTE cadre facing military action.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal on Sunday said the Government of India is aware of the turbulence affecting the region.

"The government is fully aware that the country can face problem and we are ready for it. We have informed our security forces, defence and paramilitary. We have also informed our states to take all necessary measures," Jaiswal said.

"I am not denying that whatever activities taking place in our neighbour will not affect us. But, we know the actual conditions and situation our neighbourhood is going through. We are prepared for it, whether it is Swat or Colombo," he added.

Meanwhile, the recent accord reached between the Pakistan Government and former militant Maulana Sufi Mohammad, who has been at the vanguard of a long violent struggle for the establishment of Islamic law in Swat, has sent a chill through Western allies with troops in nearby Afghanistan.

The recent developments have strengthened fears of Taliban getting encouragement to believe that they could succeed both in Pakistan and Afghanistan through militancy.

Meanwhile, the LTTE, in Sri Lanka, is on the verge of defeat with more than 50,000 soldiers surrounding them in the northern war zone where the military said heavy fighting was ongoing. (ANI)
