Jayawardene's record century leads Sri Lanka to 406-3

By Super Admin

Karachi, Feb 21 (ANI): Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene on Saturday became only tenth batsman to score a century against every Test playing nation.

He also achieved the feat to become the first Sri Lankan batsman to score 8,000 runs in Test cricket.

Mahela's record-breaking feats led Sri Lanka to a total of 406-3 on the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan.

Another batsman who celebrated the joy is Thilan Samaraweera, who scored a brilliant hundred (130 not out) and shared an unbroken partnership of 229 with Jayawardene.

The Sri Lankan captain, who will step down as captain after this series, hit 20 fours in his inning.

Kumar Sangakkara and Warnapura also scored half century in Sri Lankan inning.

Sri Lanka dominated from the outset when Jayawardene won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Sri Lanka captain was dropped thrice by a team playing its first Test in 14 months.

Pakistan last played a Test match against India in December 2007 in India and played its last home Test against South Africa in October 2007. (ANI)
