Yousuf still non-committal over leaving ICL for national duty

By Super Admin

Lahore, Feb.20 (ANI): Premier Pakistan middle-order batsman Mohammad Yousuf is still non-committal to leave the Indian Cricket League (ICL) to get himself picked for the national team as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt had asked for.

"I have not thought about leaving the ICL till now although the board chairman felt this would be the easiest way for me to make a comeback to the Pakistan team," The Nation quoted Yousuf, as saying.

Yousuf met Butt and other PCB officials here and urged them to consider him for the national squad, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has not asked its member cricket boards to bar ICL players from offering their services to their respective national teams.

According to sources, Butt assured Yousuf that if the court lifts ban from him and other players, the PCB would be able to convince the ICC regarding their selection in the national team.

Earlier, the Sindh High Court suspended a ban on 17 players who sided with the ICL, and allowed them to play in domestic matches.

Butt asked Yousuf to disassociate himself from the rebel Indian league, sighting existing financial conditions.

Yousuf had joined the ICL after he had serious altercations with the team captain Shoaib Malik.

He was particularly annoyed by the PCB after not being considered for Pakistan national team for the World Twenty-20 tournament. (ANI)
