Government providing sophisticated weapons for anti-terror operations: Jaiswal

New Delhi, Feb.18 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal on Wednesday said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha that the induction of new weapons, equipments and technology for security forces is a continuous process.

He said that a modernisation scheme of Central Para-Military Forces with an outlay of Rs.4,184.50 crores was launched in March 2002, which will come to an end on March 31, 2010.

Under this scheme, CPMF's are provided with modern firearms, effective mobility, advanced communication and surveillance systems, etc. to improve the effectiveness of these forces to tackle the security challenges, he said.

He revealed that state police forces are placing demands for funds with their respective Governments for equipment to meet security-related challenges.

Weaponry items and security equipments, including sophisticated weaponry are being purchased by the police keeping in view their operation requirements, he said, adding that financial assistance of Rs.5004 crore has been given to the States under Modernisation of Police Force Scheme during the last 5 years (2003-04 to 2007-08).
