Dubai, Feb 17: Indian ace shuttler Sania Mirza in straight set defeated Ekaterina Makarova of Russia and entered the second round of the $2 million Dubai Tennis Championships. The Indian who was the runner-up in last week's Thailand Pattaya Open crashed Makarova 7-5 6-2 in the opening round of the hard court event.
In the match which lasted for more than one hour Sania faced a tough challenge from Marakova who broke the Indian's serve in just the third game. But the India fought back to break her opponent in the 12th game and took the first set 7-5. She will now face the 16th seed Kaia Kanepi from Spain.
