Sonia revokes Rane suspension
New Delhi, Feb 16 (ANI): Not willing to take chances with its poll prospects in Maharashtra, the United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Monday revoked the suspension of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane.
"Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved a proposal to revoke the suspension of Narayan Rane with immediate effects," Congress Spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan told reporters.
Sources said Rane was likely to join the Maharashtra Government soon.
Rane had met A. K. Antony, in-charge of Maharashtra unit of the party, and the Political Secretary to the Congress President Ahmed Patel, a few days ago and expressed his willingness to work for the party.
Rane was suspended from the Congress on December 6, 2009 after his outburst against the party leadership when Ashok Chavan was chosen instead of him as Maharashtra Chief Minister in the aftermath of the terror attacks. (ANI)
