Pattaya, Feb.15 (ANI): Indian tennis star Sania Mirza fine run at the Pattaya Open ended on Sunday after she was defeated by the Russian top seed Vera Zvonareva in straight sets 5-7, 1-6.
The match, which lasted an hour and seventeen minutes, saw Mirza putting -up a brave fight before losing to world number five Zvonareva.
The first set was fiercely fought between both players, but Mirza's several unforced errors ruined her efforts.
Once she lost the first set to the Russian, the writing was on the wall. Mirza wasted the chance of breaking Zvonareva serve's in the opening game of the second set.
She earned a breakpoint in the opening game of the second set, but Zvonareva powered her way to victory with some amazing shots.
Mirza's stunning performance in the tournament will certainly help her gain some vital points in WTA rankings.
Mirza is currently ranked 126th in WTA rankings. (ANI)
