Ad spend moving into internet: David Filo
Bangalore, Feb 15: Though advertising sector is hit by global slowdown, internet giant Yahoo believe recession is a blessing in disguise for cyber sector. Reports suggest that the companies which reduced the media advertisement spending are now shifting to internet from TV and radio advertising.
David Filo, the Yahoo Co-founder and Chief confirmed this trend. "Advertising. while there may be slow-down....it's not going away", he said to media. He was speaking on the sidelines of Yahoo India R & D organised second Open Hack Day meet in bangalore. Filo added that there are other factors too. "People consume increasingly more and more internet", as opposed to television and radio, he argued. "People are moving that attention (from television and radio) to internet; that shift is going to increase (further)".
Internet advertising is 'measurable' and, so, advertisers are 'much more amenable' (to put more dollars into internet advertising)", he added.
Sharad Sharma, the Yahoo India R & D CEO said that the broadband access in India needs improvement and PC penetration needs to be more faster. Sharma said, "Internet growth is modest in India."
