Police in Gorakhpur have filed a murder case against three people including Prasad, after the Allahabad High Court ordered the police to do so.

Prasad, a Congress MP, has been charged of involvement in the murder of one Ramprakat Singh, who was killed over a property dispute on January 28, 2008. Sources said that Mahavir Prasad allegedly used his influence to protect two people suspected of killing Ramprakat.
