Brain-training exercises 'don't delay dementia onset'

London, Feb 11 (ANI): There is no evidence to show that brain-training exercises can delay the onset of dementia in elderly people, says a new study.

The study, conducted by Peter Snyder, a US professor of clinical neurosciences, has warned that such games may in fact be damaging, for they reduce the amount of time older people spend on other activities such as exercise.

Games like Sudoku and number and word puzzles on Nintendo DS consoles used by many pensioners to give their grey matter a workout.

However, the new study found nothing to support claims they cured the likes of Alzheimer's.

"Brain ageing products can be a financial drain and decrease participation in more proven lifestyle interventions, like exercise," the Sun quoted Snyder, as saying. (ANI)
