Kollam, Feb 9: Tagging Sri Rama Sena Activists as 'threat to country', P Chidambaram on Monday, Feb 9 said that the Center is watching its activities. he also urged Karnataka to take stern action against the Sena responsible for Mangalore pub attack.
"Sri Ram Sena is a threat to the country. The Centre is watching its activities with great concern", the minister told reporters.
Condemning the activities of the Sena, he said, "no organisation can become a self-styled police force. That cannot be allowed. Sena had already crossed limits. They cannot say what one should wear, one should eat or to where one should go."
Asked if the Centre could impose ban on the outfit, he said "let us see what Karnataka Government is doing. We expect Chief Minister Yeddiyurappa to take firm action against them as promised", he said.
New Coastal Command
"The Centre has decided to set up a Coastal Command by integrating the functions of the Navy and Coast Guard, to combat possible terrorist attacks from the sea, in light of the recent Mumbai Terror attacks," Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said in Kollam on Monday, Feb 9.
The Navy would look after the security of blue waters, the Coast Guard would take the territorial waters and the coastal police would keep vigil at the grass root level, he said, while inaugurating Kerala's first Coastal Police Station at Neendakara near here.
The decision on setting up the Coastal Command would be taken in a few days, he said.
