Dr. Bhattarai seeks donors' support to Nepal

Kathmandu, Feb 3 (ANI): Nepal Finance Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has urged donor agencies to extend support to materialise the government's efforts in economical restructuring of the country.

During the meeting of the representatives of various donor agencies here on Monday, Dr. Bhattarai stressed the need to work in carefully for resolving the problems of the country.

Representatives of donor agencies said that the government should ensure proper utilization of resources in order to receive expected foreign aid.

They also have urged the government to move ahead by taking the private sector into confidence.

Raising their concern over non-transparency during public procurement, weakness in the government's efforts to control corruption, they expressed worry over the government's failure to spend the development budget.

Their concern comes at a time when there has been criticism of the Maoist-aligned Youth Communist Democratic League and the Youth Force of CPN (UML) for their anarchic activities.

Dr. Bhattarai committed that the government would do the needful to maintain good governance and amend the public procurement process if necessary.

The representatives of the World Bank, the UN, the International Monetary Fund, Britain, Japan, China, the US and India were present in the meeting.

The government expects to collect NRs. 47 billion in foreign aid and NRs. 19 billion in loan in order to meet the ambitious budget of this fiscal year, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
