Volatile Sensex ends up; Grasim, ACC, Maruti up

Mumbai, Feb 3:Indian equities ended volatile session higher Tuesday, Feb 3 led by gains in benchmark majors like Grasim, ACC and Maruti. Market also found support in positive European markets.

Bombay Stock Exchange"s Sensex ended at 9150.34, up 83.64 points or 0.92 per cent. The index touched a high of 9302.75 and low of 9040.56.

National Stock Exchange"s Nifty was at 2785.90, up 19.15 points or 0.69 per cent. The broader index hit an intra-day low of 2752.90 and high of 2831.70.

BSE Midcap Index was down 0.85 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index slipped 0.40 per cent.

Biggest Sensex gainers were Grasim Industries (7.43 per cent), ACC (5.26 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (3.58 per cent), BHEL (2.84 per cent) and ITC (2.59 per cent).

Losers comprised DLF (-13.32 per cent), Tata Motors (-5.5 per cent), Hindalco Industries (-3.8 per cent), NTPC (-2.73 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra (-1.87 per cent).

Nifty above 2800; Oil & gas, banks surge

Indian equities gained momentum Tuesday as investors bought index heavy-weights like Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank and Grasim Industries. Positive opening of European markets lended further support.

At 2:30 pm, National Stock Exchange"s Nifty was at 2819.20, up 52.55 points or 1.90 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 2831.70 and low of 2752.90.

Bombay Stock Exchange"s Sensex was at 9284.70, up 218 points or 2.40 per cent. The index touched an intra-day high of 9302.75 and low of 9040.56.

BSE Midcap Index and BSE Smallcap Index were up 0.03 per cent each.

Sensex firm; Sterlite Ind, ACC, Grasim up

Indian equities moved higher on Tuesday as traders bought frontline stocks at lower levels after steep fall in previous trade. Positive Sensex.

Asian markets boosted sentiments further. All the sectoral indices were in the green with FMCG, banks, capital goods and oil&gas stocks in the lead.

At 10:20 am, Bombay Stock Exchange"s Sensex was at 9168.20, up 101.50 points or 1.12 points. The index touched an intra-day high of 9225.31 and low of 9123.01.

National Stock Exchange"s Nifty crossed 2800 mark in early trade. The broader index was at 2796.15, up 29.50 points or 1.07 per cent. It touched a high of 2813.60 and low of 2752.90.

Stocks open higher; realty, banks lead

Indian stocks opened higher Tuesday, Feb 3 as positive global cues helped lift sentiment. Beaten down realty and banking pack were back in Sensex.

Bombay Stock Exchange"s 30-share Sensex rose 62.29 points to 9128.99. National Stock Exchange"s benchmark Nifty climbed 23.60 points to 2790.25 from its previous close.

A rally in technology stocks lifted the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 on Monday on bets Obama administration's economic stimulus will boost spending on telecommunications and tech infrastructure.

However, the Dow and S&P 500 fell as uncertainty about a plan to stem bank losses dragged Bank of America down almost 9 percent. The Dow Jones industrial average ended down 64.11 points, or 0.80 per cent, at 7,936.75.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index dipped 0.45 point, or 0.05 per cent, to 825.43. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 18.01 points, or 1.22 per cent, to 1,494.43.
