Islamabad, Feb.1 (ANI): A top official of the Pakistan Foreign Office has put aside a resolution moved in the National Assembly, asking the US President Barack Obama to appoint an envoy on Kashmir or include the settlement of the dispute in the directive of the US envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

According to The Dawn, a top official of the Foreign office has put aside the move, and came out with another toned down version excluding the call for sending a US envoy on Kashmir.

The new statement, underlining the importance of a peaceful solution of the Kashmir issues, says that the international community should come forward and play its role in solving the dispute.

"This House underscores the importance of peaceful and just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. We expect the international community to play its due role in the early resolution of this longstanding dispute. And in this context expresses confidence that the new US Administration will, as stated by President Obama, give priority to this issue," the new version of the resolution said.

Earlier, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Marvi Memon had moved a resolution asking the US administration to include the Kashmir issue into the directive of the US envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"This House resolves to ask President Obama to send a US envoy on Kashmir or to include Kashmir's resolution in the mandate of the US envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan," the original version of the resolution said.

The resolution was supported from all the political fraternities including the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N). (ANI)
