Maharashtra govt asks MNS, Sena to pay for damages
Mumbai, Jan 29: Jayant Patil, the Maharashtra Home Minister on Thursday, Jan 29 announced that it is the responsibilty of the Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena to pay for the properties they damaged in Nashik and Mumbai.
Last week the Shiv sena activists had vandalized the Hotel Intercontinental Grand in Mumbai in protest of sacking some Marathi workers. These workers were allegedly trying to form tradeunions. The MNS attacked a school in Nashik were a Bhojpuri cultural event was going on.
The State Police Commissioner said that a detail report is being prepared on the incidents, which will be submitted to the magistrate who will then order the respective parties to pay for the damages.
Sources said that the government is also planning to apply the amendment to the Bombay Police Act passed in Oct last year. The Act states that the political parties are liable to pay damages caused by their activites once a case is filed.
