New Delhi, Jan.27 (ANI): The mother of Scarlett Keeling, the British teenager who was murdered on a beach in Goa last February, has charged the police of that state with destroying her daughter's internal organs.
The body of 15-year-old Scarlett Keeling was pulled from North Goa's Anjuna beach semi-naked, with just a bikini top around her neck, while her bikini bottoms, shorts and shoes were discovered by her mother on a busy path two days later.According to The Telegraph, lawyers representing Fiona MacKeown, last night accused the Indian authorities of deliberately destroying her daughter's kidneys and liver to prevent British coroners contradicting their claims that she had drowned after taking a drugs overdose.
MacKeown has been struggling to repatriate her daughter's organs so she can finally lay her to rest.
Under English law, a UK national who dies overseas cannot be buried until a British coroner's report has been completed.
According to MacKeown's lawyers, Indian detectives who mislaid some of her organs and destroyed others against her wishes have obstructed her from completing this formality.
Vikram Verma last night said Indian police had finally agreed to release the remaining organs to MacKeown, who is now applying for a visa to travel to India, but said there were no longer any organs remaining which could help a British coroner establish the truth of how Scarlett Keeling died.
"All that's left is a part of her uterus, part of her stomach and part of her pancreas. There is no liver and no kidneys, which would be essential to test for drugs in her body. Now the UK authorities will not be able to find out what happened to her," he said. (ANI)
