London, Jan 23: Students of Raikes Centre pupil referral unit of Britain got a shock when a little pet hen laid eggs as big as grapefruits. Little Lil, a Columbian blacktailed cross lives with three other pet chickens named Auntie Madge, Auntie Edie, Auntie Doreen in Raikes Centre in Gloucester.
Teacher Kate Farminer, 54, is at loss of words. She said, "We've got four pet chickens here and Little Lil is by far the smallest and also the quietest."
She added that they were amazed when she started producing enormous eggs. "You wonder how she gets them out. The children think they are dinosaur eggs. It's very exciting for the children to have something special like this," the Daily Express quoted her as saying.
One of the eggs was so large that when it cracked open, the children found another egg inside. It was in Oct 2008, that Little Lil started laying eggs. She lays a normal-sized one every day but has dropped one enormous egg a month.
Moreover, the staff hasn't been able to measure the weight of the eggs because the 10cm whoppers exceed the scale's maximum weight.
