Punjab CM's son sworn-in as Deputy CM
Chandigarh, Jan 21:Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal's son Sukhbir was sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister on Wednesday, Jan 21. Sukhbir post for deputy chief minister was strongly opposed by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) coalition partner BJP.
The
two
top
posts
in
the
state's
coalition
govt
will
go
to
same
family
as
Sukhbir
sworn-in.
Since
the
Badal
ministry
already
has
18
members,
including
the
Chief
Minister.
The
maximum
Punjab
can
have
due
to
constitutional
limit
imposed
vis-a-vis
the
state
assembly
strength
(117
members).
Sukhbir's
brother-in-law
Bikramjit
Singh
Majithia
resigned
as
Information
and
Public
Relations
Minister
to
pave
the
way
for
the
SAD
President.
Among the 13 cabinet miniters four members are from Badal's family with the remaining five from coalition BJP. SAD is dependent on BJP as it could win only 49 seats in assembly elections, while BJP had won a record 19 assembly seats in 2007 elections.
