Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said that a claymore bomb was fixed to a bicycle and kept at a petrol pump opposite to Batticaloa police station.
"Among the killed were a police sergeant and one civilian. Ten people including two policemen, four schoolchildren and a teacher were wounded in the blast and admitted to Batticaloa hospital," Nanayakkara said.
He said that the LTTE cadres 'facing humiliating military defeats in the north' were now engaged in such desperate attacks.
