Allahabad, Jan 19: Reports suggest that the Magh Mela, a religious congregation turned violent after a group of VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) attacked the Christian missionaries, including three women who were allegedly distributing 'profane literature'.
The incident took place when four Christian missionaries were distributing pamphlets propagating their faith at the Palace Ground. Manoj Srivastava, senior VHP leader said, "When the news reached the VHP camp situated nearby, a volunteer went to collect a copy of the pamphlet and to our horror we found all sorts of blasphemous things about Hinduism."
"We rushed there and caught hold of the missionaries and gave them a good thrashing before handing them over to the police," he added. Police sources said that no case has been registered against the missionaries. Also they were let off after a warning. However VHP have decided to pressurise the Mela administration to take stern action against the missionaries.
Srivastava added that VHP want the missionaries be booked under the National Security Act as their pamphlet had derogatory references to holy river Ganga.
