Kenneth Mugara wins Mumbai Marathon
Mumbai, Jan 17: Kenneth Mugara of Kenya, won the men's open section at the Sixth Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on Sunday, Jan 17. India's Ram Singh stood fourth in the 42-km marathon. David Tarus and John Kelai both Kenyans won second and third positions respectively.
Mugara bagged $31,000 while Tarus and Kelai were richer by $20,500 and $13,000 respectively. Ram Singh won $10,000. In the half-way Marathon category India's Surinder Singh won first in the men's section while Kavita Raut bagged the top position in the women's category.
Tight security was provided for the first mass occasion after the gruesome Mumbai terror attacks. Air security was provided by three helicopters from the Mahapalika Marg, adjacent to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), one of the sites targeted by the Nov 26 attackers.

The event was held under the guidance of Athletics Federation of India with technical coordination by Maharashtra Athletic Association. The marathon which attracted 43,000 people also witnessed celebrities taking part. Anil Ambani, Milind Soman, Arjun Rampal, Vinay Pathak, Shreyas Talpade, Rahul Bose, Om Puri, Tara Sharma, Lillete Dubey were some among them.
