London, Jan 15 (ANI): A Star Wars-themed keyboard, featuring letters from the Klingon alphabet belonging to Klingonese language spoken in the popular series, has now hit the shelves in UK.

Its creator Cherry Electrical Products said that it was planning to build computer accessories for other languages spoken in the Star Trek universe.

The Klingon keyboard has been especially designed for the thousands of science fiction fans who have learned to converse in the alien language.

Klingonese was spoken by the Klingon warrior race, and was devised by linguist Marc Okrand in 1984 for a film version of the popular Star Wars television series.

These days, Klingonese is said to be the most widely-spoken fictional language in the world.

In fact, texts including the Bible and the works of Shakespeare have been translated into Klingon, and speakers of the language have even formed their own organisation, the Klingon Language Institute.

The keyboard has the spidery, curving characters of the "pIqaD" alphabet, which was inspired by the symbols on the side of Klingon ships.

Still many Klingon enthusiasts love writing in the Latin alphabet used for European languages on Earth.

"The Klingon keyboard is the first step in providing PC input devices for all Federation cultures and will aid communications between Earth and other cultures within the Federation that fall outside the domain of Starfleet command," the Telegraph quoted Michael Groom of Cherry Electrical Products as saying.

He added: "Of course, this keyboard demonstrates our capability to deliver custom keyboard designs, keycaps and layouts - whether on this planet or elsewhere in the universe."

Available online for 43.99 pounds, the keyboard is compatible with computers running Windows, OS-X (Mac) or Linux. (ANI)
