Washington, Dec 30 (ANI): US Senator John McCain has expressed his fears that India might be on the verge of launching an attack on Pakistan in the wake of last month's terror attacks on Mumbai.

"The Indians are on the verge of some kind of attack on Pakistan," the former Republican presidential candidate was quoted by The News, as saying.

McCain's statement comes after his early December visit to India and Pakistan as part of the US efforts to ease tensions between the two nations and avert any standoff.

"I think it's a very dicey situation," McCain said while stressing that both the countries have nuclear weapons. "We're going to be in for a very difficult time there," he said

He assumed that India might be planning to launch an air attack on suspected militant camps, which could be a very difficult situation for South Asia and the other parts of the world.

Meanwhile, Pakistan sees some positive signs in statements made by the Indian leadership over the last two days.

Islamabad has, however, recommended New Delhi that deactivate its forward air bases and move its ground troops back to peacetime locations.

China and the United states also have been taking diplomatic steps to defuse tensions between India and Pakistan. (ANI)
