Blasts in Philippines kills 1, injures 4
Zamboanga, Dec 31: Atleast four people, including two policemen were killed in two explosions in the south Philippines. Military sources said that a suspected suicide bomber, was transporting am improvised explosive device when it went off at a police checkpoint near the town of Esperanza on Mindanao island late on Tuesday, Dec 30. Lt Col Julieto Ando told to reporters that the the bomb was transit and exploded due to faulty assembly.
One police officer was injured in the incident. Meanwhile, a policeman and two other people were wounded late on Tuesday, Dec 30 when unidentified men tossed a bomb at a police outpost on the outskirts of General Santos city. Separatist rebels of Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the region denied any involvement in the Esperanza bombing.
