Mkts close off day's high: Auto, CG surge

Mumbai, Dec 30: The markets closed with good gains but off the day"s high. It appears profit booking was seen at higher levels. The indices started the day with some choppiness but in the afternoon session, saw a good bounceback. All BSE sectoral indices closed in green. The BSE Auto index outperformed other sectoral indices — it was up over 3%. Strong buying interest was also seen in capital goods, realty, IT, power and banking stocks. The BSE Midcap and Small Cap indices were up 2.18 per cent and 1.79 per cent respectively.

The Sensex closed up 182.64 points or 1.92 per cent at 9716.16. It has touched an intra day high of 9,785.04 and an intra day low of 9,494.70.

The Nifty was up 57.30 points or 1.96 per cent at 2979.50. It has touched an intra day high of 2999.15 and an intra day low of 2899.75.

Markets surge; Realty, banks, auto gain

Markets have surged after some choppy trade. Nifty hits 2950 level. Buying interest is seen in auto, realty, capital goods and banking stocks while oil & gas stocks are trading weak. Some good momentum is seen in the BSE midcap and smallcap stocks; indices are up over 1 per cent each.

At 1.35 pm, the Sensex is up 106.30 points or 1.12 per cent at 9639.82, and the Nifty up 33.00 points or 1.13 per cent at 2955.20. About 1621 shares have advanced, 1097 shares declined, and 485 shares are unchanged.

Markets choppy; ONGC, RIL, Cairn drag

Markets have give up their morning gains and are trading choppy. On the downside Nifty has touched 2900 mark. Selling pressure is seen in oil & gas, pharma stocks. Reliance, Infosys, ONGC and HDFC are major draggers for the Sensex. However, realty and auto stocks are still witnessing buying interest. The BSE midcap and smallcap indices are up 0.79 per cent and 0.81 per cent respectively.

At 11.02 hrs IST, the Sensex was up 10.72 points or 0.11 per cent at 9544.24, and the Nifty was down 16.70 points or 0.57 per cent at 2905.50. About 1524 shares have advanced, 1208 shares have declined, and 470 shares are unchanged.

Positive start for market, metals realty lead

Stocks opened higher on Tuesday, Dec 30, extending gains from the previous session. Metals, realty and capital goods edged higher. Second rung BSE markets, IT & auto to recover in 09.

Bombay Stock Exchange"s 30-share Sensex climbed 100.83 points to 9,634.35. National Stock Exchange"s benchmark Nifty rose 23.40 points or 0.84 per cent to 2945.60 from Friday"s close.
