Lahore, Dec. 27 (ANI): Pakistani Government has taken over ten educational institutions supported by the banned utfit, Jamat-ud-Dawa, for promoting jihad in various parts of Punjab.

Sources quoted by The News have said that following a ban imposed on the JuD; intelligence agencies informed the overnment that ten of the educational institutions in various parts of Punjab were promoting extremism.

"Special lectures promoting Jihad are delivered to students especially at the time of assembly," sources quoting ntelligence reports said.

There are total 26 Jamat-ud-Dawa run educational institutions in the Punjab province but the Government appointed dministrators in only 10 selected schools.

An anonymous School Education Department official claimed that the step was taken to speedup educational ctivities, foreseeing the upcoming matriculation annual examinations.

The source accepted that the administrators, who joined on Friday, would have to monitor the activities on a egular basis. However, the teachers would not be replaced and continue to teach at these institutions, he added.

Abdullah Muntazir, a JuD spokesman, rejected the idea that Dawa schools were promoting extremism by saying that had here been any JuD policy to promote non-academic activities, then it would have been followed in all schools not nly in ten schools.

He also said that Dawa schools were not only registered with the government but these schools followed government-pproved syllabus and the organisation had always worked within the law and discipline.

Following the UN ban on Dawa in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, the JuD run education and charity nstitutions were raided on December 11 and its offices were sealed. (ANI)
